The Three Rivers City Commission has endorsed a proposed land swap that would result in a larger neighborhood park on Broadway Street and provide additional space for an existing business.
Commissioners indicated support for the exchange after conducting a public hearing on the subject during their meeting Tuesday evening (August 19th). No comments were received in the course of the hearing which was set two weeks ago to allow for citizen input on the proposal.
Russ Gearhart of Gearhart Body Shop has proposed purchasing property on the southeast corner of Broadway and Fourth streets and trading it for existing park land on the southwest corner of the intersection, a tract that is adjacent to his business.
The parcel offered by Gearhart is seven percent larger than the existing park and contains more mature trees.
The next step in the process is development of a formal agreement for the exchange.
