C. L. Mahoney Company of Kalamazoo has won the contract to install a new, 10-ton rooftop heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) unit at the St. Joseph County Commission on Aging building.

In action Tuesday evening (October 21st), the Three Rivers City Commission approved the company’s bid to handle the project at a cost of just under $15,000 ($14,986).

The COA building – otherwise known as the Three Rivers Community Center – is served by four rooftop HVAC units – three five-ton units and one 10-ton unit.  According to a staff report, the 10-ton unit is the oldest unit in service, has outlived the industry standard life expectancy of 15 years, and is in need of repair.  The repair estimate is approximately $3,200.  The report says, “The feasibility of continued repairs was examined and disregarded.”
