Island Hills, “St. Joseph County’s premier golf facility,” has announced the hiring of Steve Morris as its new PGA Professional and manager.
Owners Lori and Tom Templin say they are optimistic that Morris’ wealth of experience in Southwest Michigan will continue to make Island Hills this area’s top destination for area golfers as well as those from outside the county.
Morris has directed and enhanced operations at Pine View, Angels Crossing and Sauganash, also located in and around St. Joseph County. He also has extensive teaching experience and even used to shag balls for Ben Hogan when he worked at the famous Shady Oaks in Fort Worth.
Morris said, “I’ve reached the summit. I started out in this area over 20 years ago with the legendary blind PGA Professional, Greg Matthews, at Pine View in Three Rivers. I truly learned from the best.”
Morris said, “I’ve loved living in this area and am a true Michigander. I know that I’m lucky to get up every day and go to work at a golf course and interact with my fellow golfer friends and customers. I love the game and love to teach.”
Morris added, “Island Hills was always my secret escape, and now it’s my home! I’m looking forward to helping Tom and Lori continue their success as this area’s award winning golf facility.”
In commenting on the addition of Morris, the Tom and Lori Templin said, “We’ve been trying to get Steve here for quite a few years, and we were elated when a window of opportunity opened and he became available. Steve is proud to be a PGA Member and is a people person. He loves golf, knows the business and will give our customers the friendly service they expect and deserve. In these challenging times, we get to be optimists!”
Island Hills has won awards and national ratings from Golf Digest. The facility has a full-service restaurant and lounge, and “the best patio in the area to eat and view a beautiful golf course and lake.”
