It’s anticipated that a vacant house and garage at 557 Osborn Street in Constantine, deemed “unsafe,” will soon be gone.
During their October 5th meeting, members of the Constantine Village Council awarded a contract to Roberts Brothers Excavating, Inc. of Three Rivers to handle the demolition at a cost of $6,250 – unless Constantine Fire Chief Mike Haydon indicated a desire to burn the buildings as part of a training exercise for firefighters.
In the course of the council’s latest meeting Monday evening (October 19th), Village Manager Mark Honeysett reported that Haydon “declined to burn the house and garage, in part because there are six to seven trees that are right next to the home and because written permission would be needed from the owner.”
In a written report on the subject, Honeysett said, “The assumption is that there would be staunch objection to killing the trees and also that written permission is very unlikely given that RECA Limited Partnership has not responded to any correspondence in months.”
Honeysett said he mailed a notice to Roberts Excavating on Friday (October 16th) and indicated the demolition work is likely to occur soon.
