KALAMAZOO–Gold Company, Western Michigan University’s award-winning vocal jazz ensemble, is turning up the heat with two special performances this Valentine’s Day weekend.

“Love: Gold Company Style” will begin at 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, in the University’s Miller Auditorium.

Both performances will feature Gold Company and its sister group, GC II. The show also marks the return of longtime Gold Company director Dr. Stephen Zegree, who was on sabbatical last year recording a CD and writing a book.

“There truly is something for everyone in the Gold Company show,” Zegree says. “I have always said that our audiences get to see and hear some of the best young talent in America, as evidenced by our alumnus Matt Giraud’s success on ‘American Idol’ this past year.”

During his time at WMU, Giraud performed in two Gold Company shows at Miller.

Widely recognized as one of the most successful and prestigious collegiate vocal jazz groups in the world, Gold Company has appeared throughout the United States and abroad. The high-energy ensemble has been chosen to perform at the World Symposium on Choral Music, Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and the inaugural Ella Fitzgerald Vocal Jazz Festival. Under the direction of Zegree, Bobby McFerrin Professor of Jazz at WMU, Gold Company combines musical elements from the traditional choral style with stylistic jazz characteristics, emphasizing improvisation and swing.

Tickets for “Love: Gold Company Style” range from $12 to $24 and are available by calling (269) 387-2300 or (800) 228-9858, online at www.millerauditorium.com, or by visiting the Miller Auditorium Ticket Office. All seating is reserved.
