The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has partnered with Adams Outdoor Advertising to put construction and motorist information on Adams’s digital billboard on South Westnedge Avenue.

Adams has offered the service free of charge during the I-94 reconstruction at Westnedge Avenue in Portage, Kalamazoo County, for the duration of the project.

“Our partnership is a great example of MDOT providing valuable information that affects motorists at no cost to taxpayers,” said MDOT Southwest Region Engineer Bobbi Welke. “This project will mean a great deal for the I-94 and Westnedge corridors when it’s completed, and we want to communicate construction updates to motorists as effectively and efficiently as possible.”

With the help of MDOT staff, Adams is posting construction updates and news on its digital billboard on Westnedge Avenue north of the I-94 interchange. The billboard can run several messages concurrently, and they can be updated instantly to keep pace with changes in the project.

“Adams feels very strongly about our commitment to invest in our communities and using our billboards in partnership with organizations such as MDOT to promote public awareness and safety,” said Adams General Manager Jeannine Dodson. “The project on I-94 at Westnedge is tailor-made for just such a partnership, and it’s an opportunity we’re happy to have.”

MDOT is in the second year of the three-year, $45 million project to reconstruct and widen almost 2 miles of I-94 from east of Oakland Drive to east of Lovers Lane in Portage, and rebuild the I-94 interchange at Westnedge Avenue. This project is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
