The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be closing US-12 around the railroad tracks west of Jefferson Street in Sturgis starting Thursday (July 15th) at 3:00 p.m. until Monday (July 19th). Work schedules are weather pending.
The closure is necessary to complete an emergency railroad crossing repair at that location.
City of Sturgis staff will be assisting MDOT in setting up the detour for the project. Officially, US-12 will be closed to thru traffic for the duration of the period and a signed detour will route traffic on the same path as for past Michigan Week and Dam Days parades.
The detour will take traffic headed from southbound M-66 to westbound US-12 and from eastbound US-12 headed to northbound M-66 on N. Centerville, W. Lafayette, N. Clay, and Memorial Drive. Traffic eastbound and westbound on US-12 will be routed on S. Centerville, Fawn River Road, and Franks Avenue.
US-12 will be closed to all traffic at Jefferson Street (for westbound traffic) and after the drive entrances to Extreme Audio and Auto Zone (for eastbound traffic). US-12 will still be open to all downtown businesses and to cross from north to south throughout town.
If you have any questions regarding the closure, please contact MDOT at (269) 375-8900.
