At the Three Rivers Lions Club’s regular meeting on July 27th, President Jeff Mayuiers called the meeting to order and, following introductions of guests and a picnic dinner, explained that one of the goals of the evening was to express the Club’s appreciation to all persons who gave generously of their time, talent, and energy to make the 2010 Lions’ Ox Roast a success.

Steve Larink and Paul Judsen, two of the three Chairpersons for the Ox Roast, explained that the success of the Ox Roast was due not only to the support of the Three Rivers community, but also the hard work of Lions and the continued support of friends and family members who were our special guests for the evening.

Recognition was also given to the following young people who again took time away from their summer vacations to work with the Ox Roast:  Daniel Grace, Amelia Griffith, Kelly Judsen, Libby Judsen, Kelly Magee and Megan Magee.

Other highlights of the evening’s program were the presentation of the Melvin Jones Fellow Award to Lion Bruce Snook and the Lion of the Year Award to Lion Sally Cotton.

The Melvin Jones Fellow award, named after Lions founder Melvin Jones and given by Lions Club International, recognizes the recipient’s dedication to humanitarian service to the highest degree.  The award consists of an attractive lapel pin, a plaque, and a congratulatory letter.

The award for Lion of the Year (2010) is determined by a vote of Club members and recognizes an individual who has given generously of her/his time and talent to meet organizational goals.  The award consists of an attractive plaque.

The next Board of Directors meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, August 23rd.  All members are welcome.  The next general meeting will be held on August 24, the second of the Club’s two annual summer picnics.

The Three Rivers Lions Club is always seeking new members.  If you are interested, please call (269) 273-2424 and leave a message or contact any member of the Club.
