Election in Three Rivers: Contest for At-Large Commissioner, write-in voting for Second District Commissioner

Four seats on the Three Rivers City Commission will be filled in Tuesday’s (November 2nd) General Election, but voters will find candidate names for only three of them on the ballot.

The lone contest is for the office of At-Large Commissioner in which the incumbent officeholder, Daryl Griffith, is being challenged by Blaine Edgell in competition for a two-year term.

First District Commissioner George Ramsey is unopposed in his bid for a one-year term in the seat to which he was appointed shortly after last year’s election.

Fourth District Commissioner Carolyn McNary is running without opposition for another two years in office.

Second District Commissioner Elbert Foster is seeking re-election to a two-year term, but his name is not on the ballot.  According to City Clerk Lindsay Howes, Foster “did not meet the City of Three Rivers Charter requirements for the number of signatures.”  However, he “filed a declaration of intent to run as an official write-in candidate.  He is the only write-in candidate for the Second District Commissioner position.”  Regarding the procedure to use in voting for this position, Howes said, “Voters may write a name in the blank space under 2nd District Commissioner and use the oval opposite the choice to cast a write-in vote.”

All voting in the City of Three Rivers will take place at Riverside Church, 207 East Michigan Avenue with polls open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
