The Lockport Township Board has a vacancy to fill.

Veteran Trustee Dannie Bloom resigned during the board’s March meeting Monday evening (March 14th).

Dannie Bloom comments on his resignation from the Lockport Township Board during the board's March meeting Monday evening.

The resignation was announced near the end of the session by Supervisor Ray Signorello who said, “It’s been nice having you on the board, Dannie.  I’m glad I got to know you.”

In his resignation letter – addressed to Signorello – Bloom said, “For reasons that are mostly personal, I find it necessary to tender my resignation from the Lockport Township Board effective immediately upon adjournment of this meeting.”

Bloom said, “I thank the members of this board, past and present, with whom I have served for their patience with me during the learning process and for enduring some of my endless questions and wayward reasoning.  I have, for the most part, enjoyed my service to the residents of our community and appreciate their support and words of encouragement when the choices to be made were difficult.”

He concluded the letter by saying, “I wish the best for this board and, as a citizen, I will remain in contact through these meetings as well as the friendships I have made while serving.  Thanks again to all of you.”

Bloom has served as Lockport Township’s representative to SCMCCI – South Central Michigan Construction Code Inspections – of which the township is a member municipality.  In response to a question from Signorello about SCMCCI, Bloom said, “I’ll continue with that for the time being at least.  I’ll tell you if I don’t want to do it anymore.”

Treasurer Paul Bungart addressed Bloom and said, “Dannie, thank you for your support.”  Bloom responded by saying, “For the most part, I’ve had a good time, Paul.  It’s been enjoyable.  It really has.  I’m not angry at anybody or anything else.  It’s mostly for personal reasons and I just don’t need the health aggravations for one thing.  It’s something that I need to slow down a little bit and just take some of the stress out of my life and so this is what I’m going to do.”

Signorello invited persons with an interest in filling the trustee vacancy to contact him or another board member.

Following the meeting, Bloom indicated that he has served on the Lockport Township Board for about ten years.
