Downtown Three Rivers got some ‘sprucing up’ Saturday morning (May 14th) with the staging of this year’s ‘Main Street Wash Down’ in the historic central business district.

Overcast skies were the order of the day, but the weather was quite manageable for activities that included the traditional ‘wash down’ of the street by firefighters from the Three Rivers early in the morning.

Later, a host of volunteers gathered at the Carnegie Center for the Arts for refreshments – juice, donuts and other treats – before setting out on tasks including placement of flower baskets on rings attached to street light poles, planting flowers in pots, minor trash pickup and weeding.

Refreshments for volunteers were available at the Carnegie Center for the Arts which served as the hub for Saturday's activities.

The Wash Down, sponsored by the Three Rivers Downtown Development Authority, is an annual project to beautify the downtown area which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places “for one of the best-preserved Victorian streetscapes in southwestern Michigan.”
