“Epiphany cakes” were served at a New Year’s meal following the Sunday (January 8th) service at the United Methodist Church in Constantine.

Karla Shirley holds one of several "Epiphany cakes."

Small trinkets are wrapped in foil, then baked in the cakes.  According to Karla Shirley, they foretell your fortune for 2012.  “This is the third year we’ve tried this.  It’s always fun.”

A list of items include a dime-rich year, penny-poor year, green button-lucky year, rock-“You will be caught between a rock and a hard place,” purple button-happy year, screw-year full of ups and downs, metal button-strong year, blue button-blue year, Craisin-wrinkles, nice-fertility, chocolate chip-spiritually rich, brown button-“blah year,” white thread-gray hair, paper clip-organized year, safety pin-safe year, cross-spiritual growth, and almond-strong heart.
