Notice from the City of Sturgis:
The National Weather Service has issued a “Winter Storm Watch” for all of Southwest Lower Michigan, which includes the Sturgis area. This storm is expected to start Thursday afternoon (January 12th) and may bring lake effect snow with accumulations of 6-12 inches with locally heavier amounts by Friday evening. Strong winds creating heavy blowing and drifting conditions are also expected.
We are reminding Sturgis residents that when snow accumulates to 4 inches or greater the City of Sturgis Snow Removal Emergency ordinance automatically activates. This means that without further notice vehicles may not be parked on any City Streets during the storm and the following clean-up activities. Your assistance will allow for a quick and orderly removal of snow and ice from our roadways. Failure to comply with this ordinance may result in a citation being issued and your vehicle being towed.
If you have any questions about a Snow Emergency please feel free to contact the Police Department at (269) 651-3231. More information about snow removal procedures and Snow Removal Emergencies is available HERE.
