The St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners has approved a notice regarding consideration of a resolution for the sale of bonds for a $3.1 million White Pigeon Sanitary Sewer System improvement project.
Unanimous action on the matter came during the board’s meeting Tuesday (January 17th) and sets the stage for commissioners to consider the bonds sale resolution during their next meeting on February 7th.
The St. Joseph County Board of Public Works (BPW) brought the matter forward after reviewing a request from the White Pigeon Sanitary Sewer System to seek the county’s pledge of full faith and credit and authorize the sale of bonds for the project.
In a related item, commissioners voted unanimously NOT to loan funds for the project, rather than selling bonds, an idea suggested by a citizen during the BPW meeting on January 9th. Although he opposed county financing of the project, rather than the sale of bonds, Commissioner Don Eaton praised those involved in proposing the project forward at this time. He noted that interest rates are now at “a 42-year low” and said, “Your timing is excellent. Your planning is beautiful.”
In a prelude to the upcoming sale of bonds, the County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously last September to voted unanimously last September to adopt a resolution for ‘White Pigeon Sanitary Sewer Property Conveyance.’
