- Estimated $1.3 million investment preserves Crosstown Parkway ponds.
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is set to begin reconstruction of the M-331 (Park Street) bridge over Axtell Creek in downtown Kalamazoo on Monday, March 12.
The $1.3 million project includes replacing the existing bridge, repaving the roadway, and new curb, gutter and sidewalk. Until the project’s scheduled completion in late June, northbound M-331 will be closed and detoured at Crosstown Parkway. Motorists will be directed east on Crosstown Parkway, north on Rose Street, then west on Forest Street back to M-331.
MDOT has worked closely with the public and the city of Kalamazoo on the project design and planned detour. The water quality of the Crosstown Parkway ponds will be preserved while the new bridge will improve safety while crossing the Axtell Creek.
