The Hummingbirds have returned to River Lake Inn near Colon.
That’s the word from Marv and Anita Bliss, owners and general managers of the River Lake Inn, in an e-mail update this week.
According to Marv, the Hummingbirds returned on Wednesday (May 2nd). Also, he said the beautiful Orioles arrived Wednesday as well.
Marv said, “The Purple Martins have been back for a few weeks and are nesting in the multiple martin houses on the property.
“The Bluebirds have been with us all year and are actively nesting in the bluebird boxes along our nature trail and gardens. So, too, are the Tree Swallows.
“With these sightings, we are delighted to report that spring is officially here!
“To celebrate their return, we are featuring our River Lake Inn private label Hummingbird Riesling wine.
“So, bring your family, friends, camera and appetite and enjoy the birds and a beautiful countryside in spring!”
Marv also suggested marking your calendars for Saturday, July 21, beginning at 8 a.m., when River Lake Inn will once again host a live hummingbird banding demonstration. River Lake Inn will be open for lunch that day.
