Members of a new woman’s group “Your Turn” are looking for ladies willing to meet at 7 p.m. every Monday at Constantine High School’s cross country track for a practice run/walk.
The group is in training for the free Fun 5k or 1 mile Run or Walk to be held at that location at 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 18, during the Back to School Fair.
Your Turn is a group of women supporting women to reach health and wellness goals, and they are also looking for dieticians, a Pilates/yoga instructor, healthy cooks and so forth willing to give the group instruction.
The group has 200-300 members living in the Kalamazoo-Portage area, and a smaller group in Constantine, Three Rivers and Sturgis.
Melissa Hall and Melodie Holman are members of Your Turn, a group of women supporting women to reach health and wellness goals. Holman founded the group in October, 2011. "Now I am living my dream," she said.
Melodie Holman came up with the idea of a support group for women in October of 2011, and founded Your Turn.
“After much soul searching, I found the path I was meant to travel,” Holman said. “It has been a long journey between then and now. Now I am living my dream.”
Holman gave a talk at “Let’s Lose,” a weight loss group at the Greater Kalamazoo YMCA, and said it hit her what she was meant to do–support women achieving their health and wellness goals.
“I, having been over 200 lbs. know how difficult it is to change from making almost all unhealthy choices to healthy ones,” Holman said.
“I lost the weight. I still felt I needed to do something.”
“After speaking to that group of women, I knew this is what I was meant to do.”
Holman lives with her husband and five children in Kalamazoo, but feels there is much to offer women locally.
Your Turn has monthly events and weekly support groups.
We are important. Set aside a time for yourself,” she said. “Put yourself first. It’s time to be okay with being you. This is a great opportunity to do something, try something different.”
“It’s good to get to know people. It’s fun,” she added. “You don’t have to be unhappy. It’s time to be okay with being you.”
Your Turn e-mails members inspiring messages and has a Facebook page, “Your Turn Women.”
“If you choose to have a good day it will be, but you have to choose it,” Holman said. “This is fun. It’s amazing.”

This is a FREE beginner running program. It can take you from mostly walking to running 3 miles in 10 weeks. We will have a nutritional counselor speaking one of the Monday nights about how to properly fuel your body for your new activity. We also have a physical therapist who will be speaking on July 9th about the difference between new to running discomfort and when it would be wise to seek medical treatment and proper stretching techniques.
Feel free to email or call if you have ANY questions. We look forward to seeing you there! Melodie
Joining this would be nice to take advantage of running or walking with a group and meet new friends. Joining for some fun and motivation for health and wellness would be great too!
