St. Joseph County voters will have a chance to learn about candidates for several offices during  political forums scheduled for mid-July at Glen Oaks Community College.

Wednesday, July 18 will bring a Probate Judge Forum and a Drain Commissioner Forum.

Thursday, July 19 will feature a District Court Judge Forum and a County Commissioner Forum.

Both events will get underway at 6 p.m. and be held in the Nora Hagen Theater at Glen Oaks.

This is an opportunity for you to hear from the candidates and make an informed decision at the Primary Election on August 7.

The audience will be able to provide written questions for the forums either in advance of the meeting or the day of the event prior to it starting.

The forums are sponsored by the Three Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce, Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce, and Glen Oaks Community College.

Anyone going who could shoot video and post on YouTube?

So few people will go out for something like this (compared to the number who vote), but many of us are interested in hearing the debate/forum.

Its good that they have such forums. Fortunately I have had the experience to see nearly all of the candidates working in their actual roles as a foster parent of 7 years. So I have the benefit to see them in action in their respective roles and perspectives/positions on various issues and cases rather that hear what they say they will do or have done…I have the luxury of seeing much of it in action over various snapshots of time.

As I have posted before, they are all very competent attorneys. And to me, it’s a very thankless job in much of what they have to contend with…their decisions shape the lives of parents and more importantly the future of kids in the foster care system. To me its not only what they have in their toolkit, it’s how their perspective and how they wield that toolkit that will shape my vote….and to me there is a pretty clear cut choice that will maintain a pretty even keeled balance on weighing parents rights vs protecting abused/neglected children of our county and their rights and needs — Dave Tomlinson.
