Glen Oaks recognizes Athletic Academic Awards

CENTREVILLE – Glen Oaks Community College recently recognized these student athletes for their academic achievement in 2011-2012.

Receiving Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) All Conference honors for earning a 3.0 to 3.199 grade point average over 36 hours or more:  Alexander C. Harvey, Baseball, with 63 credits and a 3.071 GPA and Conner R. Hudnall, Baseball, with 52 credits and a 3.106 GPA.

Receiving Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) All State honors for 36 hours or more of 3.2 to 3.599 GPA:  Michael S. Carr, Cross Country, for 68 credits and a 3.272 GPA; Kristin N. Clark, Cross Country, for 62 credits and a 3.475 GPA; Amber F. Humphreys, Cross Country, for 50 credits and a 3.290 GPA; Kody K. Hurley, Cross Country, 50 credits and a 3.350 GPA; Iffe Oni, Cross Country, 71 credits and a 3.345 GPA; Nicole M. Wilson, Cross Country, 46 credits and a 3.554 GPA; Jessica L. Hiatt, Softball/Fast Pitch, 91 credits and a 3.296 GPA; Helen M. Newell, Softball/Fast Pitch, 78 credits and a 3.250 GPA; Katie M. Rumsey, Softball/Fast Pitch, 50 credits with a 3.420 GPA; Samuel T. Fowler, Baseball, 54 credits and a 3.218 GPA; Nathan M. Gendron, Baseball, 61 credits and a 3.418 GPA; Richard N. Hayden, Baseball, 37 credits and a 3.364 GPA; Jordan D. Zwart, Baseball, 62 credits and a 3.363 GPA.

Receiving the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Team Award was the Women’s Cross Country Team with a GPA of 3.327. The team was composed of April Castle of Three Rivers, Kristin Clark of White Pigeon, Amber Humphreys of Sturgis, Michelle Merritt of White Pigeon, Iffe Oni of Sturgis (Germany), Nicole Wilson of Three Rivers.  The MCCAA Team Award also went to the Men’s Cross Country Team with a GPA of 3.169. Team members were Arthur Bowman of Three Rivers, Michael Carr of Sturgis, Wendell Eichorn of Leonidas, Kody Hurley of Sturgis, Darian Kirby of Sturgis, Colton Longpre of Regina, SK, CAN and Jeremy Severns of Union.

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Award for Superior Academic Achievement of 45 hours or more and a GPA of 3.8 to 3.99 was presented to: Wendell E. Eichorn, Cross Country, 55 credits and a GPA of 3.891; Colton J. Longpre, Cross Country, 63 credits and a 3.992 GPA.

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Academic Team of the Year honor was earned by both the Women’s Cross Country Team and the Men’s Cross Country Team.
