Marv and Anita Bliss of River Lake Inn have issued a reminder about the “Hummingbird Banding Event” scheduled for Saturday, July 21 at River Lake Inn near Colon.
In an e-mail to the River Country Journal, they note that Brenda Keith and Alan Chartier, of the Great Lakes HummerNet Project, the only two licensed hummingbird banders in Michigan, will begin capturing and banding hummingbirds at 8 a.m. (weather permitting). Bander Richard Keith and several experienced volunteers will assist.
The reminder message says, “There is no charge for the public, so bring your family and friends for a fascinating day. See live hummingbirds up close and learn about their remarkable lives. Don’t forget to bring your camera! Last year roughly 50 hummingbirds were banded that morning.”
For the Hummingbird Banding Event, River Lake Inn will serve a Luncheon Buffet from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. as well as a limited lunch menu.
Marv and Anita also say, “While you’re at River Lake Inn, be sure to save time to enjoy a relaxing stroll though the gardens and nature trails. Our gardens and water ponds will be in full bloom and wonderful to see.”
