Margaret Shultz retirement candy bar

Margaret Shultz, retiring Community Resources Coordinator for the Department of Human Services (DHS) in St. Joseph and Cass counties, was honored during an open house Wednesday afternoon (July 11) at DHS headquarters in Centreville.

Margaret Shultz gets a hug from two of her grandchildren, 6-year-old Gavin Hershberger and 8-year-old Sydney Hershberger, during the open house in Centreville in her honor. At the left is Diana Fair, Extension educator with MSU Extension in Centreville.

Many folks with a variety of connections to Shultz stopped by during a two-hour period to wish the veteran DHS employee well as she wraps up a 38-year career with the agency.

Shultz, who has been “the cornerstone for many community projects” during a career that dates back to 1974, will officially retire on Friday (July 13).

A similar open house will take place Thursday (July 12) from 3 to 5 p.m. at the DHS office in Cassopolis at 325 M-62.
