SNOOK’S NOOK BLOG: The “middle class”

Bruce Snook of the River Country Journal

In this presidential election year, we’re hearing a good deal about the “middle class” and its plight in these challenging times.

The middle class was the focal point for an interesting conversation during Tuesday’s (July 17) edition of The Diane Rehm Show on National Public Radio.  Diane’s guest was Jeff Faux, Founding President and Distinguished Fellow with the Economic Policy Institute, and author of a new book entitled The Servant Class.  In her opening remarks, Diane said, “The middle class, as we have known it, is on the way out.”  And she added that Faux, in his new book, “explains why he believes politicians of both parties at the behest of America’s elite are systematically destroying economic aspirations and quality of life for America’s middle class.”
