Reserve that perfect vantage spot to view the Perseids and save room for the s’mores.

The state parks are staying up late the weekend of Friday (August 10) through Monday (August 13) for the biggest meteor shower and s’mores party of the summer.

Enjoy the chocolaty gooeyness of those trusty campfire standbys as you watch the Perseid meteor shower that occurs annually each August. The state parks with their minimal ambient lighting are the perfect places to stake out a spot for meteor watching. The shower (weather permitting) can be viewed by gazing toward the constellation of Perseus, the mythological hero who is said to have killed Medusa.

State park activity nearest ‘River Country’ will be at 9 p.m. on Saturday at Van Buren State Park at South Haven.  The park is located at 23960 Ruggles Road.  The telephone number is (269) 637-2788.  For more information about the park, click on the following link: Van Buren State Park.
