A tight race for the second of two seats on the Colon Community Schools Board of Education in the November 6th General Election has prompted a recount that is scheduled to be held Thursday (December 6).
According to St. Joseph County Clerk Pattie Bender, the recount will get underway at 9 a.m. at the Colon Township Hall.
Incumbent Trustee Eric Wagner requested the recount after finishing in last place in a three-way contest for two, six-year terms on the board. Official results from the balloting show that he received 1013 votes, close behind second-place finisher Deborah Bordner who garnered 1017. Another incumbent, Eric Bower, finished in first place with 1111 votes.
Bender said, “We will begin with the recount of Colon Township and then Sherwood Township, Branch County will come in at 9:45 a.m. to begin their recount followed by Matteson Township, Branch County at 10:15 a.m.”
