The St. Joseph County Transportation Authority (SJCTA) will offer free rides home for New Year’s Eve revelers in the county.
SJCTA Director Steve Yorks says the agency will have two buses working the county again this year, one for the southeast portion and one for the northwest portion. The hours of operation will be from 9 p.m. New Year’s Eve until 4 a.m. New Year’s Day. Contact numbers for folks to call for a ride are (269) 816-1355 for the southeast section of the county or (269) 816-0381 for the northwest section.
According to Yorks, this is the fourth year the SJCTA has provided this service. Donations have been made by the Three Rivers Elks Club and the In-Between Restaurant at Klinger Lake to help fund the service. Customers may also drop a donation in the bucket when they ride.
Yorks notes that the SJCTA does NOT provide rides to the “party,” only rides home after the party, and advance reservations are not accepted. Folks must call when they are ready to the leave the party and go home.
Yorks says, “We will transport anyone within St. Joseph County to their home. Our goal here is to provide a ride for those that shouldn’t be driving themselves after drinking alcohol. This allows them to have a good time and leave the driving to us. We will have drivers and escort persons on the bus again this year to get people home safely.”
