With the weather we’ve been experiencing lately, it’s difficult to even think about this year’s Water Festival. It’s still about five months away, so don’t get out your lawn chairs quite yet. Deb Herring and the Water Festival committee have already scheduled their first meeting. We’ll meet at the Three Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce office in Three Rivers February 28, at 7:30 A.M. This is a little early for a lot of folks, but the committee is made up of volunteers, and most of them have jobs, so this is just about the only time they can meet. It’s not too early to start planning Water Festival, because logistically, it can be quite a feat. There are about ten committee chairs, and they’ll be looking for volunteers to work together and make this year’s Festival something that will be fun for everyone. This is an open meeting, so if you’d like to be a part of one of the biggest things happening in Three Rivers, give Deb a call at the Chamber office. She can be reached at 269-278-8193. I’m not much of a fisherman. I would use a cane pole when I’d go with my dad years ago. I’ve never quite imagined what would draw people to a frozen lake, to drill a hole in the ice then sit on a bucket waiting for a fish to snatch your bait. The thought of it makes my feet cold. This coming weekend might be a cure. Michigan’s Free Fishing Weekend, Saturday and Sunday, February 16 and 17, is the first of two annual Free Fishing Weekends. The purpose of the weekend is to encourage people of all ages, but especially the younger folks, to get outside and try the sport of fishing. There is nothing more rewarding than watching someone catch that first fish. Some have found that just being away from the fast pace of life, even if just for a few hours, can provide a fresh outlook and new perspective on life. I love vegetables, whether raw or cooked. I can do a lot of damage to a veggie platter, and many times, I’ll prepare a nice salad for my evening dinner. I was pleased to find out from the American Cancer Society that carrots are especially good for you. They are rich in vitamins A and C, they have zero fat, are a good source of fiber, and can help one fight cancer. What is there not to like? I’m not sure about being that great for your eyes. I’ve eaten plenty of carrots in my lifetime and I’m still wearing glasses. What’s up, Doc?
How many times is it appropriate to say “What?” before you just nod and smile because you still didn’t hear or understand a word someone said?
