Caden Jackson, a second grader at Eastside Elementary School and his mother, contacted radio station B100 to participate in “Quest for a Million Pennies,” a fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Collection jugs were delivered to the school over a month ago, and B-100 picked up the pennies on Thursday (February 28).
Caden said they were collecting pennies for B100 where his mother worked, and he told her they should collect them at his school. He added collecting pennies was pretty exciting. “They dumped the second grade one out, because it got too full. Pennies are pretty heavy too,” he said.
B100 and the Michiana community have joined for the past 16 years to raise $2.8 million dollars for the kids at St. Jude. Children suffering from childhood cancer and other catastrophic illness can go to St. Jude to receive lifesaving treatment regardless of their race, religion or ability to pay.
