The Constantine Brainstormers group staged a spaghetti dinner on Sunday, February 24 at American Legion Post #223 in Constantine, an event that also included a silent auction and 50/50 raffle. Proceeds were earmarked for the Constantine Fire Department to purchase five automatic external defibrillators (AEDs). An A.E.D.is a portable electronic device that diagnoses potentially life threatening cardiac arrhythmia of ventricular fibrillation in a patient and it is able to treat the arrhythmia through the application of electrical therapy, thus allowing the heart to establish an effective rhythm.

Three Rivers Eagles #2303 donated food items for the dinner and the Constantine Fire Department donated the dessert.
Dennis and Margot Cunningham were among those at the spaghetti dinner. They are members of a group that volunteers their services in emergency situations for St. Joseph County. The group currently has 24 members. It began twelve years ago, and works closely with the Sheriff’s Department in Centreville. “We’re on call every fourth or fifth week for 24 hours and lend assistance in a variety of situations,” Dennis Cunningham said. For information on volunteering for the program, contact the Sheriff’s Department.
Donations are still being taken toward the purchase of AEDs. Make checks payable to the Constantine Fire Department and drop them off either at the fire department or the Constantine Village Office.
