Christy Trammell, executive director of the Three Rivers Downtown Development Authority (DDA), said several more would be installed during the day and the rest of next week.  And she said, “As you can see, we have banner poles as well as the supports for the hanging baskets.”

Trammell said it will be a few weeks before the new LED lights will be powered up.

Here’s a glimpse of the Mural Mall itself on Friday revealing the ongoing reconstruction of the walk-thru from North Main Street to Railroad Drive and the West City Parking Lot. (Click on photo to enlarge)

In commenting on other aspects of the project, Trammell said, “In the next few weeks, you will see the lowest portion of Railroad Drive will be cut up next week as they prepare for the new pathway.  The concrete in the walkway will be poured in early April and the sidewalk stamped concrete will be poured in mid-April.”  And she added, “Thank you for your continued patience as we progress in this project!”

While improving the downtown area is a positive idea, measures to make sure people are able to navigate from their cars, to the stores, safely, should be addressed. Yesterday, I parked on Main St. to go to UniQ with my 87 year old mother. I had my mom wait in the car until I came around to assist her getting to the sidewalk. While trying to get from the sand fill to the solid sidewalk, we lost our balance in the soft sand and both went down! Fortunately, neither of us were injured! My mom is unable to walk long distances or we would have parked in the back.
