The Three Rivers Police Department reports two drug arrests as the result of a traffic stop on Thursday (April 4).  According to a news release, an officer from the department conducted a traffic stop on a white SUV for a minor traffic violation and observed indicators of narcotics involvement during the contact.  The driver granted officers consent to search the vehicle and the search yielded other indicators, but no drugs could be found.  Officers discussed the situation and called upon K9 Hondo for a vehicle search.

K9 Hondo was deployed on a “free air sniff” around the vehicle and alerted on the exterior of the vehicle for narcotic odor.  Inside the vehicle, Hondo gave a solid determination that narcotics were present.  Officers again search the vehicle, paying special attention to the area where Hondo had alerted.  After an in-depth search of the SUV, officers located ½ ounce of narcotics concealed inside a hidden compartment in the vehicle.

The driver, a 19-year-old Kalamazoo resident, and his 16-year-old passenger were both taken into custody.
