‘Patriotism’ is something associated with the Fourth of July. As our extended Independence Day holiday weekend draws to a close, it seems appropriate to examine the word and concepts related to it. One way to do so is to read an article by Jeremy Adam Smith, web editor of the Greater Good Science Center, which is based at the University of California, Berkeley. Smith is also a 2013 fellow with the Institute for Justice and Journalism.
The article asks whether one can celebrate the Fourth of July without hating and fearing other countries. Written for Greater Good Berkeley, the article also appears in YES! Magazine. To access it, simply click on the following link: Four Paths to a More Compassionate Patriotism.
