If you’d like to learn more about the Southwest Region of the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), circle Thursday, July 25 on your calendar. That’s when MDOT will be opening the doors to its Southwest Region office in Kalamazoo. Residents, business owners and local government officials are invited to talk with region staff at an informational open house that day from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The office is located at 1501 East Kilgore Road in Kalamazoo.
MDOT representatives will be available during the open house to discuss project selection, transportation funding, construction projects and other issues during the open house.
Whether highway and bridge conditions, project types, traffic signals and speed limits, snow removal or clearing crashes and debris, there is more to MDOT’s daily workload than patching potholes. Staff and equipment will be made available for a public hands-on experience.
“Motorists and residents too often see only a small piece of what we do as an agency,” said Southwest Region Engineer Bobbi Welke. “We want to give people the opportunity to ask questions and learn about transportation issues that impact their daily lives, to see who MDOT is and what MDOT does. We also want to remind people that MDOT is and always will be committed to engaging the communities in which we work and the people whose lives our work affects.”
If there’s a need for special accommodations to attend the open house, call (269) 337-3900.
