The sixth annual Animal Rescue Fund (ARF) Golf Outing was held on Saturday (July 20) at the St. Joe Valley Golf Club near Nottawa.
First place golfing honors went to Jordan Olsen, Mark Olsen, Riley Olsen and Ryan Barnas with a nine under score of 59. Second place went to Darrel Peugot, Paul Gorsuch, Larry Smoker and Steve Eckhardt at eight under, and third place went to the Maggie Mead team at seven under. Game winners were: closest to pin – Dallas Jones; longest drive – Maggie Mead, Steve Eckhardt; and longest put made – Odie Ziefmer.
Fun events at the outing included putting a golf ball on a $1, $5, $10 or $20 bill; a poker hole–draw a poker chip from a bag, move to the tee of the color selected; longest drive for men/women; hit a shot closest to the pin on the green; a Frisbee hole, and “Gone to the Dogs” – a player must hit around (stuffed) animals to sink a putt.
Owners of the St. Joe Valley Golf Club, Don and Susan Powell, said they were glad to host the event.
“We like to see the people come out. It’s perfect weather, and we’re always happy to host fundraisers for groups,” Don Powell said.
Three Rivers resident, DVM Bruce Withers, who owns Eighth Street Veterinary Care in Kalamazoo, enjoyed the event. “I came to show support for ARF, and I had a great time. I love animals, plus this is a cause near and dear to my heart,” Withers said.
Golfer Dallas Jones added, “I had fun, and I think I am going to adopt a pet.”
A banquet was held at the club immediately following the golfing event, which included a recognition of winners. Door prizes were also awarded.
