The HarmonyFest Committee has announced that it will again feature young local musicians in its Guitar Contest during this year’s Three Rivers HarmonyFest.
The Michigan Senate voted Thursday (August 27th) to streamline government by eliminating the Michigan Department of History, Arts and Libraries and keeping its programs intact by returning them to the Michigan Department of State, said lead sponsor Sen. Cameron Brown.

Fine art and White Pigeon will come together for “Art in the Park” on Saturday, September 12th. “Art in the Park” is an event sponsored by the White Pigeon Downtown Revitalization Association (DRA), an organization established three years ago to bring new life to White Pigeon’s downtown area.
The latest show at the Carnegie Center for the Arts will open with a reception on Sunday (August 23rd) from 2 to 4 p.m.
The Three Rivers Downtown Development Authority (DDA) his given the green light for installation of a donated sculpture in the “walk-thru” at 25 North Main Street. The action came during the August meeting of the DDA Board of Directors Thursday morning (August 20th).
The St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners has indicated that the St. Joseph County Grange Fair Board will have to pay the cost for liability insurance for St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department officers who work at the fair this year.
A “Ribs and Blues Night” will be staged on Saturday (August 22nd) at the Sturgis Elks. This will be a “Celebrity Waiter Night” supporting the St. Joseph County United Way.
The upcoming weekend is a significant one for the Riviera Theatre in downtown Three Rivers as the entertainment venue marks its one year anniversary since re-opening. Manager Danielle Moreland says, “We have a great weekend planned.”
The Constantine Village Council has approved an application to the Michigan Liquor Control Commission for a one-day license to accommodate plans by the Village of Constantine Cool Cities Committee for a beer tent again this year during the Constantine Harvest Festival.
The Constantine Village Council will meet in regular session at 8 p.m. Monday at the Village Hall.

It’s Riverfest time in Mendon! The Mendon Riverfest – marking its 22nd anniversary in 2009 – will get underway at 5 p.m. Thursday (August 13th) and continue through Saturday (August 15th).
